No one really knows where he came from. He is sort of a celebrity of sorts in our town. The "he" I am referring to is our newest pet, Rupert Turkidus the Second. There are many different stories about how he got here. I'll share with you the most popular.

The first and most popular story is the one that I mostly believe is true. It begins about 15 years ago in a small village in upstate New York. Rupert was part of a colony of wild turkeys that ran around in the forest near the village. Every other young turkey was happy with this life, but Rupert longed to be famous. To travel to the big city. New York City. Once Rupert turned 5 (grown-up age for a turkey) he jumped aboard a Mac truck and ran away to New York City. He spent 2 years after that studying day and night the art of dance. At the start of his third year in New York City, he was put in a production of "Swan Lake" and had the lead role. It turned out that a famous Broadway producer was in the audience. He saw how well Rupert danced and hired him on the spot for his new production "Hamlet's Revenge" (don't ask; the producer was messed up in the head). Rupert was extremely happy in that job; good pay, fame, glory- everything he could ever ask for. Unfortunately, before a big show about 4 years after he started with "Hamlet's Revenge", Rupert was in the middle of his ending grand jete, fell on his foot, and (surprise, surprise) broke it. Rupert was automatically fired from the show. By then, he was a celebrity in the city, so he had to go to some measures to disguise himself. He dyed his tail feathers and started wearing blue sneakers (more for comfort for his broken foot than anything, but they helped in the transformation). Rupert lingered around the city for a few more years then moved here!

There are a few more stories about him, everything from him being a weird mutated type of turkey, to being a ghost. I just wanted to share the previous one with you because that seems like the most true. Just remember, if you are ever traveling through Carson, Virginia, remember to stop by our house and visit Rupert!
