Newsletter #6

Welcome one and all! We appreciate your continued support for the Amazing Authors Showcase, its authors and sponsors. For many of you, this issue is now available in a completely new, online reading format. Thanks to Pepper Raines and the continuing evolution she brings to our site, we have graduated to a much more formal design with the launch of this online reading area. It comes complete with links, graphics and artwork. You may choose to read this standard version, or jump on over to the more stylized newsletter at:

Amazing Authors E-Zine (http://members.aol.com/PepperRaines/index.html)

The content is essentially the same here as at the online site, but it’s WAY cooler to see all the neat things Pepper has come up with. When you get a chance, check it out and give us your feedback. We’re also looking for articles from YOU, our readers on your particular perspective of the writing world. If you have a short piece, a good joke, or just something you’d like to contribute, send it along. Please make sure your subject line indicates FOR THE AA NEWSLETTER, and paste your article in the body of an email. NO ATTACHMENTS, please.

Now, for all the newcomers, thanks so much for dropping by or joining our mailing list. The Amazing Authors Showcase is quickly becoming a favorite place to visit for readers of quality fiction and children’s literature from all over the world. We have carved a niche in this vast cyber domain that few sites can provide for free. This niche, like everything else on the Amazing Authors site, is in the process of getting bigger and better every day. And the good news is, the cost of admission is still FREE!

That means everything we bring to you on the site and in this newsletter can be forwarded to your online buddies. We want you to tell the world about us. Let your friends share the fun and don’t forget to include those "real world" buddies as well. Please send them the following url so they can come to visit. Or give them the link to the newsletter above, and let them learn all about the Amazing Authors Showcase.

Okay, so much for the shameless site promotions! As usual, we've added some exciting new writers to the Showcase in the last two weeks. Drop by their pages and leave a note in the guest books, or send them an email and let them know you read their stories. For many of our writers, this is their first big exposure to the world, so give them some feedback.

NOVEMBER'S FEATURED AUTHOR: John Patrick Schmitz

John has penned Titanstomper, a heroic fantasy adventure, the opening chapters of which are provided for you on the Amazing Authors site. John is currently working on a collection of science fiction stories and has plans for a sequel to Titanstomper. He is also the founder and webmaster of the online speculative fiction magazine, "The Door To Worlds Imagined" which can be found through the link provided on his featured author page.

OTHER NEW AUTHORS:

Lily Erlic: The Pootie Potter Diaries (for children)

Children's writer Lily Erlic comes to us from Victoria, BC where she lives with her husband and three sons. Lily's new book "Action Rhymes for Children--A fun Way to Exercise" will be published by Frank Schaffer Publications Inc. Scheduled for release in November 1999, Lily's action rhymes have been accepted for Totline Magazine's book, MAKING MEMORIES, A PRESCHOOL ACTIVITY BOOK. Lily is currently working on a new book called "Great Tasting Whole-Wheat Desserts--Over 100 High Fiber Delights!"

Teen Author Patricia (last names of Teen writers are not published):

Patricia is a 17 year old senior at Ramapo High School in New York. Patricia’s writing is her passion and from what we’ve seen of it, she’s quite good at it. We applaud both her attitude and her writing efforts. With lines like: "I thought for an instant to let him think me dead rather than let him think me an idiot," there can be little doubt that her writing career will take off whenever she’s ready.

OTHER NEWS:

If any of you are interested in writing short articles for a master web server, please contact Jon Baxley (Wasp1946@aol.com) for details asap, or send an email to (Sandi@fictionforest.com) with a subject line of ARTICLE SUBMISSION. The Writer's Club Romance contest still NEEDS entries! The prizes for this contest are well worth your time to consider, folks. QUICKIE OF THE WEEK:

Two men arriving at the Pearly Gates strike up a conversation.

"How'd you die?" the first man asks the second.

"I froze to death," says the second.

"That's awful," says the first man. "How does it feel to freeze to death?"

"It's very uncomfortable at first," says the second man. "You get the shakes, and you get pains in all your fingers and toes. But eventually, it's a very calm way to go. You get numb and you kind of drift off, as if you're sleeping. How about you, how did you die?"

"I had a heart attack," says the first man. "You see, I knew my wife was cheating on me, so one day I showed up at home unexpectedly. I ran up to the bedroom, and found her alone, knitting. I ran down to the basement, but no one was hiding there, either. I ran up to the second floor, but no one was hiding there either. I ran as fast as I could to the attic, and just as I got there, I had a massive heart attack and died."

The second man shakes his head. "That's so ironic," he says.

"What do you mean?" asks the first man.

"If you had only stopped to look in the freezer, we'd both still be alive."
