Greetings

from the

Amazing Authors Showcase

August 27, 1999

First, let me thank all of you once again for dropping by our web site, and for joining our mailing list. As promised, this newsletter is being emailed to you to bring you up to date on all of the happenings around the Showcase.

Undoubtedly, the first thing you'll notice is that the name of the site has been changed. For the sake of facilitating web searches, alphabetical listings, and eliminating any conflicting web site names, we have re-dubbed our site the “Amazing Authors Showcase.” Amazing, isn't it, what a good ring that has to it?

Not only is this a much "cooler" name, but we think it better represents the growing list of amazing writers who have joined our ranks in the last few weeks. We have had entries from all over the world coming in for the Showcase contest. With the newer and better web representation for our contests, writers and stories, this is a trend we are quite sure will continue.

By the way, if you've not done so, tell your friends about the site and give them a link or the following url so they can come and visit. The proper url (universal resource locater) for Amazing Authors is:

Amazing Authors on AOL http://members.aol.com/df4pepper/writers.html

Now, on to the other news. We have added several new writers to the Showcase. If you've not done so, drop by their pages and leave a note in the guest books. Then take a few minutes to read the stories we've posted for these writers. They are well worth your time.

There have been a few minor successes this last week as a result of the Showcase exposure. Jon Baxley had his short story THE HERO published by Yahoo for their new pay-per-view site at HotRead.com (http://www.HotRead.com/) and another story is under consideration. Several other Showcase writers are currently being considered by Yahoo as well.

Other items of note:

Featured Author Patricia Cox's (Ms Zaphod@aol.com) novel, SPIRITS OF THE HEART, has made it to a second level of evaluation for publication, according to her agent. Opening chapters of this western historical novel can be found on her Showcase page.

Mark Mann (Writeman3@aol.com) is closing in on the final chapters of his novel, OF LITTLE VALUE. The manuscript is being evaluated now for possible publication. Opening chapters of this contemporary novel can be found on his Showcase page.

Jon Baxley's (Wasp1946@aol.com) Arthurian fantasy, THE SCYTHIAN STONE is under final consideration by Cloudy Mountain Books for print, online and screenplay options. Opening chapters for this story can be found through links on his Showcase page.

The opening chapter of John Darling's (Jackpoints@aol.com) THE PRETENSE OF TIME is now posted on the Showcase for your reading pleasure. To enjoy the balance of this intriguing story about time travel, contact the author.

Becky McGraw (M6064@aol.com) has just completed work on chapter five of RED FLAGS, a cooperative effort with Jon Baxley. Opening chapters of this work can be found on either author's Showcase page. If you would like to be added to the reader's review list for this work in progress, please contact the authors through their web site links.

Pepper Raines (DF4Pepper@aol.com, the webmistress of the Amazing Authors site) reports that "hits" on the Amazing Authors site have jumped almost 250% since the site opened August 1. That increase is due in large measure to Pepper's tireless efforts to promote the site web-wide. Let her know you appreciate the efforts!

For those of you who may not have considered entering other web writing contests, here are a few links that will help get you started. The Amazing Authors contest is listed on this first LINK, so be sure to send that one to your web friends and get them to enter.
