Be more specific. Grendel comes to Heorot Hall because, as an outcast, he probably is jealous of the good times they have there. He terrorizes Heorot for 12 years. Beowulfheard about this in his neighbor land, and being distant kin to Hrothgar, goes to help out... Let's see.. the battle with Grendel. Grendel comes to Heorot, and devours a thane. He next goes for Beowulf, who grabs his hand, squeezes it, and Grendel realizes he's in trouble. Beowulf then rips off Grendel's arm at the shoulder, and Grendel runs away to his lair, dying all the way.
