My teacher asks me to write a research paper on Hamlet. I plan to focus on the psychoysis and character ysis of Hamlet. But I cannot find enough materials, and the worse thing is I have been confused by some critics on this character. Undeniably, he is a complex character full of contradiction--sometimes he is a philosopher and poet, we can see his high morality, and sometimes he behaves madly (the manner to Ophilia) and do mean deeds (the persecution of the two Rosencranz),but the problem is that I have no idea on how to formulate a thesis that combine the discrepancy in his character.

Is he real mad or just pretend to be. From the play, it seems that he is not mad. What he does is just to show to others, but what the use of pretending to be mad. Can that contribute to his revenge? If he is really mad, is that caused by Ophlia? That¡¯s too superficial. There is a long period between the Act 1 and Act 2. Does he become mad during the period?

I think Hamlet does not want to take the revenge unconsciously. Though reason and morality urge him to take his responsibility, but he does not intend to get involved in the corruptive world. He is under the control of social morality and his weak nature.

And I¡¯d like to hear your opinion on Hamlet. I need more ytic materials on him.

Please send your suggestion to me at read.book@263.net

Thank you.
