Native speakers of all varieties of American English are invited to participate in an online study on the different types of pronouns. As compensation for participating, you would be entered into a raffle for one of three gift certificates to Amazon.com (one $150, one $100, and one $50).
The study is completely anonymous (although requiring the entry of an email address for verification purposes) and takes about 60 minutes, spread over 4 sessions, each of which can be conducted in the privacy of your own home. The task involves giving your judgements and completing fill-in-the-blank exercises, both of which deal with what you feel are the most appropriate responses to certain linguistic stimuli (note---we are not interested in what you have been taught in grammar cles, but rather, we are interested in what you feel is a possible English utterance, regardless of whether or not it is sanctioned by prescriptive rules of English).
The experiment and more information about it can be accessed via the WWW at the following URL:
http://symsys.stanford.edu:8081/experiment/web_exp3/start-a.html
If you have questions or comments, please contact the experimenters:
Florian Jaeger: tiflo@stanford.edu
Andrew Koontz-Garboden: andrewkg@stanford.edu
Lev Blumenfeld: lblum@stanford.edu
Many thanks for your participation!
This experiment is co-sponsored by the Linguistics Department at Stanford University.
