: Dear Sir, : I have written a new interpretation of the Tao Te Ching and am in search of a worthy publisher. The mcript has been read to good review by other Taoist authors. One described it as the best version he had ever read. I tried to eliminate the mystery and contradiction of meaning inherent in direct Chinese to English translation. Thus I call it an "interpretation". It is written in simple poem/prose style, and I purposefully worked to make the concepts understandable to the Western mind. I took the least liberty I felt necessary in working with five translations as the basis for the work. : If you might know of a publisher who would have interest, or an agent who might help in its marketing, I would be very grateful for any help. I give you a sample of the opening page of "The Way Thru Change": : The Way can never be fully known. : Yet one can know the Way. : The name that can be named, : Is not the eternal name. : That which is named is compliment to the unnamable. : As the Great Mother, she sprang forth from the eternal source : And gave birth to the myriad things. : Free of longing and desire one may glimplse the mystery. : Caught up in wanting and wishing, : One struggles with all that happens, : All that comes and goes, : All that is and is not. : Yet to desire seems natural. : Thus light and darkness, that seen and unseen, : Time and space represent the gateway to all mystery. : And a favorite, chapter X : A wholesome personality recognizes the duality of its own nature: : The lower, inferior self, : And the superior, original self. : Thus one actively works to restrain the one, : And give reality to the other. : Thereby one attains to his path. : Seeking clarity within; : Can you find the inner radiance? : When leading a cause; : Can you do so without cunning? : In guiding others; : Can you do so by example rather than directives? : Must you meddle and interfere? : Or can you accept time as the vehicle of change? : Can you allow the river its natural course? : Staying receptive, can you trust the unknown? : Can you lock away your understanding in silence, : And trust in the power of non-action? : Giving birth to things then nurturing them. : Being unpossessed by your possessions. : Doing good for no reason at all. : Leading without seeming to. : This is true virtue. : Thank you for your time and attention, John Bomar johnrbomar@hotsprings.com
