: Hi!
: I'm urgently need a discussion with anyone for different perspectives on Auden and his poem. By any chance, if anyone is able to link Auden's and George Orwell's views on comparison with "The Unknown Citizen" and "1984", please mail me. Thank you!
I was researching for a comparitive essay linking the themes of Unknown Citizen with the underlying theme of 1984, and i happened upon your question. It is a very true statement, that these two works were written with similar beliefs of the future. I am a tremendous fan of each and I am shocked that there isn't more information available that also confirms this idea. I thought that i was wrong until i saw your question. Thanks for the common belief!
I was reading the introductory biography of a book, (of course i don't recall the name at this time) grrr... but anyway the person who i was reading said that Auden and Orwell were friends and that the reason Auden projected such an interestingly cold, dark, and anti-individualistic setting, was a direct result of the two author's stand on Europe, germany, and the appeasement policies of the times.
