I went to Philosophy evening cl some years back and a similar thing happened to me. Eventually I gave it up.
Philosophy is not an exact science. It is fuzzy around the edges.
To get a qualification in it you will have to do a lot of reading of books written by past philosophers, and consider their "schools of thought". You will have to decide where you stand.
But even then I am not sure you will get good marks unless your teacher agrees with you.
Philosophers can not abide folks who do not share their views! My teacher found my views untennable and likewise, I wasn't too impressed by his so we tended to fall out!!
Let us consider God. I think you will be hard pressed to find a Philosopher (or at least a modern philosopher) who beleived in God. If you DO believe in God you will find yourself hard pressed to justify such a belief, because any evidence you put forward (and believe me there is plenty of it), will not be acceptable to a philosopher. So it is really a trick question Amy.
Now don't get me wrong, I think Philosophy is the most fascinating subject in the world, being as it is the questionning of life, the meaning of life and everything. It has a very broad spectrum and I think it can be very enlightening.
But academically speaking it is a tricky subject to take. Can't you get out of it?!
