: what are nietzsched thoughts on war

A good place to start is from the beginning?that is of his mature thought. ?The wander and his shadow? is a supplement to Nietzsche?s book ?Human all too Human?, make sure it is the second edition as it is not in the first, and see See aphorism 284 --The means to real peace. I so happen to have R.J. Hollingdale?s translation presented by Cambridge U Press which has both editions and the whole aphorism. The following is an portion of an excerpt from Kaufmans Pottable Nietzsche:
??perhaps the great day will come when a people distinguished by war and victories and by the highest development of a military order and intelligence, and accustomed to make the heaviest sacrifices for these things, will exclaim of its own free will, ?We break the sword,? and will smash its entire military establishment down to its last foundations. Rendering oneself unarmed when one has been the best-armed, out of a height of feeling?that is the means to real peace, which must always rest on a peace of mind; whereas the so-called armed peace, as it now exists in all countries, is the absence of the peace of mind. Rather perish than hate and fear, and twice rather parish that make oneself hated and feared?this must someday become the highest maxim for every single commonwealth too."War to Nietzsche was deable result of degenerated states , but it brought out great discipline in individuals where there would be none. Morality was the root of war, supposing the other bad while being the good. While the tables reversed on the other side. The enemy becomes inhuman. The enemy?s enemy does too. These shells of men leave a vile waste where once stood warriors who once honored their adversaries even --as they killed them there was an affinity to the enemy. Nationalism was the cause of this inhuman frame of mind. This form of the state was created by Christianity, which ?has left nothing untouched by its depravity, it has made of every value a disvalue, of every truth a lie, of every kind of integrity a vileness of soul? ( Aphorism 62 The Anti-Christ). When he writes about war in reference to himself as in ?life?s school of war: that what does not kill me makes me stronger?( Aphorism 8 Twilight of the Idols). He is talking about self-discipline. Nietzsche was constantly struggling with illness. So he needed discipline to keep his strength.
