A Kantian morality is no way to live a happy life. In order for an act to be moral, says Kant, it must be done out of duty...so your desire to save your friend is not even moral because you want to save him. Kant destroys any notion of virtue and throws Aristotle's eudaimonia out the window...eudaimonia (happiness, flourishing, achievment) would be a vice in Kant's ethics, or at the very least would have no moral import. In all honesty...I would rather hang myself than follow the categorical imperative.
