Everywhere we see the advance of materialism. Everywhere the dehumanization of mankind, reducing humanity to mere machines within the vast industrial apparatus. Hegel critisized post enlightenment thinking for being unable to view God, but only man, and even then only view man in a finite and empirical sense. Jaspers felt that modern society could no longer aim at any transcendental perfection, but rather could only strive towards a sort of finite earthly goal. In short our God-head has been lopped away, our heaven has been erased from view, and our humanity reduced to mere function. It was Jaspers who believed that this sort of world-view was untenable, that man would ultimately rebel. And I feel that we are seeing this happen now. The young generation is turning its back on scientific hegomony, and I feel that we may be seeing the end of an episteme that sprouted in the renaissance. The defeat of rationalism by irrationalism, of materialism by idealism, we are witnessing the dawn of a new consciousness. I recently read a book by a little known author Paul Omeziri, tittled Descent into Illusions, published by PublishAmerica. In it the same view is echoed. The character turns his back against the world that has been termed "reality" by modern materialism and plunges back into the realm of what Sartre termed "magical." One of the great existential consciousnesses of man, the original way of thinking, a world not dominated by laws and principles, but by emotion.
