: If you are somewhat of a genius, and good with woodworking : and tools, you can construct your own windsurfing setup, : and completely byp all this "official" windsurfing crap. : First off, I think windsurfing boards are *way* too : expensive, sometimes costing upwards of $300-$400! To top : it off, there's all that attitude from the "official" riders. Often, I think they're also far too difficult to : use. I have found an ingenious way to make a perfectly : functional windsurfing rig at a mere fraction of the cost : by simply retrofitting an old skate board, hat rack stand, : and a few old sheets. I attach the hat rack to the board by : drilling a 3 1/4" hole, and attach it below with a glue : dowel. For fins, I was able to use peices of other : skateboards cleverly broken in to triangles. The hat rack : stand acts as a perfect mast, to which I intelligently : attach coat hangers (of various sizes) and some old sheets : such as to make a sail. With this simple board, I have : been EASILY clocked at speeds of over 50m/hr in some cases. Of : course, this was on still lake water. The open ocean is : somewhat different! If you do it right, you'll be laughing : at all the looks on the faces of those idiots that spent : all that money on a so called "real" windsurfing setup. : (Loooooozerrs..)
