Anyways, I saw one at the Florida Sportsmant trade show about a week ago. My daughter of 8 and I tried a few out in the lake out back of the show. They were a blast for the both of us. The dealer said that they rented them. So the next weekend I did just that.
Took the fly rod and did a night fly fishing trip in the ICW of St. Pete. What can I say, it was a hoot!!! Had the best fishing trip this year. Landed about 20 snook, lost another 8 and caught another dozen of other species.
It was stealthy, fast, easy to control, stable and I felt very safe in it. I even took it to the p where the winds, waves, boat wakes and ripping tide all played havic with each other. I still was dry, felt stable, felt safe and went where I wanted and when I wanted. It was a breeze to pedel against the tide and winds and still have my hands free to cast and fish at the same time.
I'm sold and in the process of buying one. Funny thing was, I was looking at kayaks, canoes and Geenoes that are selling for half the price. The pedal thing is what did the of selling it for me. BTW, I was in it for 10 straight hours, pedaled all over the place (litterally miles) and felt great. Back didn't hurt, legs were not sore and I was not physically exhausted.
It's too bad those darn things are so expensive, otherwise I would get another single and a double for the rest of my family. So I guess we are getting a canoe and each one of us can take turns in the Hobie Mirage Outback.
