: : I am having bad problems with loss of feeling below waist. It takes about 10 mins, and it is all gone. I am in a Sea Kayak. I am fairly new to the sport, others have said to me that I need to customise the fitting of Kayak, but do not know where to start.
: : Any advice, reply to email.
: : Thanks

: Stef: I think those that suggest "outfitting" may be on the right track. I would get foot numbing falling asleep after about 30 minutes in my Dagger Animas, making it no fun. Try using either minicell foam of about 3/4 inches or one of those nifty inflatable seat cusions (about $30.00) to lift your up off the seat a tad. I found that the contour of the seat was pressing against nerves right at the top of my legs/base of because actual seat was too scooped out. Raising the seat a bit took pressure off those nerves and increased blood flow to feet and legs. I'm much improved now. In the alternative, I'm looking for a used sea kayak... you could just mail it to me and take up bicycling... -JAB
...Whatever you do don't leave it uncorrected. Continued pressure on those nerves can cause damage that could leave some longer term problems. As for taking up biking, there are nerve compression problems there called lovingly bike to be contended with. ;-)
