i dont think henry choses Rinaldi's ideals over the priest's. does he not reject both ideas,and reject rinaldi's before he rejects the priest's? rinaldi's being that love is simply physical pleasure,which henry rejects when he first meets Cat "this was better than going to the house for officers" and even before that when he talks of his leave which was simply a holiday of drinking and whoring when he says "and you know that that is all there is" whereas later in the novel henry begins to adopt the priests idea of love when he dreams of bringing cat a drink of water, telling her to lie on her other sideif she is uncomfortable
