: im doing a project on hemingway and need to find some rumors on him (things that probably arent true) im relating it to how people perceive him, however untrue it may be using said rumors. if anyone has any rumors id be helpful to have them. thanks
In terms of his life, the beiigest, unfounded rumor, is that he was a latent homoual, especially in his dealings with Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. And that he was not a particularly intelligent or literary man. On the contrary, he apparenlty read a huge amount, both the current authors and past authors, Tolstoi, Turgenev, Conrad, Eliot, etc. He also seems to have learned many of the techniques various painters used and incorporated these techniques into his writing. Especially Cubism and Impresionism as typified in the works of Pico and Juan Gris and Cezanne and Goya.
In terms of his writing, especilly his technique, he was supposedly influsenced by his expiriences as a reporter which forced him to write terse, unembellished prose. He always denied this. And he was supposedly influenced by Gertrude Stein and Sherwood Anderson, but if this is true it is only true to a very limited amount. He was probably more influenced by Ezra Pound and James Joyce.
Other things include his fighting in the Italian Army, especially the Arditi Shocjk Troops, during WW I. He never did. Or that he was a member of the International Brigades in Spain during the Civil War there inthe late 30's. He covered parts of the war as a correspondant, was was not actually a member of the Brigades.
What else??
