Prufrock is talking about himself, soicety, and us as people. "A patient etherized against a table" shows the complete vunerability of people. Prufrock also views himself not as the main character in his life (Hamlet) but as an attendant lord (Polonius). To finish he says he should have been a crab, wandering the bottom of the ocean. Yes you did, but in the end he says "We have lingered in the chambers of the sea....By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown.....'Till human voices wake us, and we drown.'" pray tell what is the meaning of this? ;~)
