: My poetry professor, Bob Sproat of Boston University, was a very influential guy who never published a word. He was a great advocate of Laura Riding, knew Eliot and some of his explications came from Eliot. Bob also brought Lowell, Helen Vendler and a lot of other people to Boston University. I thought he must surely have published something about his approach to Eliot, since it was one of his major teaching subjects. But those of us who are former students of his have searched in vain. Afraid that his wonderful approach to Eliot might disappear without a trace, I have written a poem which I think embodies his aesthetic, or approach.
