I have never heard of such an excision. Though there is a stylisic and thematic connection between the two poems, there is however an evolution in this poem, ie reference to deaths other kingdom, possibly paradise, rather than a lingering in purgatory and hell in the waste land. I have a copy of the original drafts of the wasteland. There is nothing of the Hollow men in it. Eliot refers to several revisions and excisions etc from the
original mcript at Pounds suggestion, but finishes in a letter to Peter Russell (May 1948)
the final section of the poem (the one in my view which stood the best chance of actually acting as a springbord for the writing of the Hollow Men) remained exactly as he wrote it himself. If anyone has any further information on this I would be interested in hearing from them, as it interests me greatly.
