Two tail-parties - two break-ups.
Two tail-parties - one reconciliation
This year The tail Party returns to the Edinburgh Fringe, the scene of its first triumphant appearance in 1949. Since then it has been rarely performed but is now ripe for revival. Following the success of the RSC’s production of The Family Reunion in 2000, Eliot’s work has regained its place in the public eye. West Ten Productions will bring out the strengths both of the original play and production and of the play’s potential for new interpretation. Fifty years ago it was the play everyone had to see, if only to decide whether to love it or hate it. In strengthening the darker, more surreal elements of the play that are always present behind the drawing room comedy, The tail Party of 2001 will reclaim that status. Funnier than Pinter, more hard-hitting than Coward, it will be a must-see for much of the Fringe audience this summer.
As well as attracting audiences new to Eliot we propose to establish a strong standing amongst admirers of his work. See The tail Party on tour at the Burton Taylor Theatre, Oxford on Saturday 28th July at 7.30pm and the Garage Theatre, studio of the Bloomsbury Theatre, Gordon Street, London WC1 from Monday 30th July to Wednesday 1st August 7.30pm, box office 07980 297917, and at Greyfriars Kirk House, Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh Monday 6th to Monday 27th August, 1.35 pm, box office 0131 225 6575.
