Animal Farm
Friday 25 May 8pm
The ever-inventive Guy Masterson Productions bring their excellent adaptation of Orwell’s clic farmyard story to The Bull on their way to Edinburgh. Adapted by Guy Masterson and directed by Tony Boncza.
Elizabeth Wort makes this compelling story accessible to all adult and child alike, political or apolitical. She effectively retains the simplicity and magic of Orwell’s tale while his allegorical message of betrayed idealism is conveyed with rare clarity and blinding relevance. Using nothing but a bale of hay, some amazingly creative sound effects and effective lighting, the story is told with clarity, power and truth. Wort tells the story through the energetic characters, switching from animal to animal, each having a different voice and characterisation.
Elizabeth Wort trained at Elmhurst Ballet School and Bretton Hall, University of Leeds, graduating in 2000. Other performances includes Helena (Look Back in Anger), Constanze (Amadeus), Hermione (The Winter’s Tale), The Judge (The Exception and the Rule) and Calonice (Lysistrata). Elizabeth also spent time stilt-walking and providing street entertainment and has performed in various Commedia dell’Arte improvised comedy performances as the part of Arlecchino. Her one-woman show, Cooking the Catholic Way, appeared at the C Venues during the Edinburgh Festival 2000.
