: I was wondering about a few things in the book that seem inaccurate if the popular name interpratations in the book are accurate.
: For one, Old Bull Lee, who is said to characteriza William S. Boroughs, is potrayed as a married man in New Orleans. It is also known that William S.Boroughs is an open homoual.
: Is there a reason Jack decided to have him married in the book?
William S. Burroughs actually was married for a time to a woman named Joan - he accidentally killed her while staying in Mexico in a stunt involving the old William Tell trick as Bill was, unfortunately in this case, an avid fan of guns who viewed himself quite a good shot. It's an interesting and somewhat chilling story, and in many ways perhaps an impetus for Burroughs' writing. Joan herself was an interesting character - further info can be had by researching through various biographies and writings on the Beat authors.
: Another one is the character Carlo Marx, who is said to be Allen Ginsberg. In the novel, besides being the most productive poet, he was also a musician who was plaing a horn in an old jazz club where Dean and Sal were engaging thenselves in.
: Was Allen an avid jazz musician?
: Thablk you to all reploes. :)
There is no record of Allen Ginsberg possessing the musical aen to be a successful jazz musician.
