: I have a paper ignment dealing with a major work of art and its political statement. I was thinking of using something of Wagner, but I am not sure if he is the right choice. What we have to do in this paper is choose a major work of art; whether it be a novel, play, movie, painting, or music, and yze what it is stating politically. I am wanting to use music, but I am not sure if Wagner was really that deep. I know he was huge on patriotism, but I don't know if the actual music was communicating anything or not. I would appreciate it greatly if anyone has suggestion on things to read, or even any other composers who would be worthy of writing on. Thanks
On the contrary, no one was deeper than Wagner. The Ring Cycle is the ultimate political allegory. The Nibelungs are symbolic of the working cles enslaved by the greedy capitalists, i.e. Alberich. If you search the net, you will find information on its depth and symbolism or e-mail me and i'll tell you everything i know.
