The original version was for piano and as far as I know Rimsky K did not orchestrate this work. Carey must be talking of the version of Ravel.
The version on the Dutch tv is not Russian but more Russian. It was actually ochestrated by a Finnish conductor. But he kept in mind the Russian temparament. As far as I know his name was Askenazy or something.
