Strangely enough, I have never heard that Bach wrote any funeral music. Perhaps Lutherans make less fuss over funerals than do Catholics. Mozart, Berlioz, and Verdi, who all wrote Requiems, lived in Catholic countries, while JSB lived in North Germany, a Lutheran area and was employed by the Lutheran church nearly all his life.

The B Minor M is an oddity, for the Lutheran church did not, and does not, say M. If I remember correctly, this is the only music JSB wrote for a Catholic Church ceremony; all the sacred Cantatas were written for Lutheran church services.
