I saw this movie recently, but only part of it because it was on TV, and because by the time i started to tape it, and then the tape turned itself off for some reason, i am missing the start and end of the film. Does anyone know where i could buy the film? I have been looking for it but can't seem to find it. Anyway I enjoyed the film immensely myself and in my opinion it is highly under-rated. It is a magnificent depiction of the life of Purcell and of 17th century England. It also has many brilliant actors. Purcell's slightly eccentric yet outward and spirited radiance lights up the screen, and Michael Ball who plays Purcell does an outstanding . The imagery of the film is very realistic. The film is lively and humorous at times, yet at the same time highly moving and subtly poignant. I could not think of a better person to play Purcell than Michael Ball. Proof that it doesn't take 49 billion dollars and hollywood media magnates to make a very fine film. Slightly on the long side, but not excessively long. If you are a Purcell lover or a music lover in general, please do take the time to see this film, you will enjoy every minute of it.
