I strongly recommend Michael Tilson Thomas with the London Symphony Orchestra on RCA Red Seal. It's a performance of integrity and a pretty solid digital recording to boot. Regarding the Boulez: I actually really like it as it reveals details of the score that you simply don't hear anywhere else BUT it's a very modern interpretation and should really only be purchased as a supplement to something else.
: i've Mahler's 7th by horenstein (the bbc legends), barbirolli (ibid), and abbado (chicago SO). I especially love the emotional committment of the former two conductors, and how they seem to accept the existence of nuanced interpretative capabilities in the listener. to After hearing bernstein's two disc DG version, i decided against it, for some exaggerated emotional pointing - LOOK here, SEE THIS! CRY NOW. that sort of thing. naxos' budget issue seemed too underplayed, in contrast- perhaps the orchestra wasn't up to it. lately i've been considering gielen's swr , or zender's saarbrucken version.
: i would really like a digitally recorded, detail-oriented and very humanly involved version... have you a cd recommendation?
: thank you!
: will
