Unfortunately I'm not up on the latest Mahler recordings, including those of the Seventh. But I've heard one you should probably avoid: Pierre Boulez, and (I think) the Cleveland orchestra. I only heard the second movement over the radio, but there was minimal emotional involvement and the tempo was all wrong.
You might want to stick with the Horenstein version. I don't know his Seventh, but he was one of the great Mahler conductors ever. If you don't mind "historical sound", I would highly recommend his live recording of the Eighth with the London Symphony Orchestra: a go-for-broke, darn-the-torpedoes performance that deserves the highest honors. (Blast the auto-censor!)
If you get it, I'd be interested to know what you think of the Gielen recording...
