: : Has anyone heard thatcharacter of Turandot greatly resembled the personality of Puccini's wife???I would be interested in hearing more about this.
: RE: I suppose that Mosco Carner said that in his book on Puccini - In the real life, Elvira, the wife of P., were at the origin of a young servant to suicide (1909) ... CLAIRE (french)
Well..... I think that's a bit of a stretch. Elivra Puccini was in fact a woman with a reason to be jealous. It was her jealousy of her husband's good looks, his way with women that was at the root of her hounding the poor servant, Doria to death. I understand from what I've read that she wasn't particularly warm. But to take that to the next level & compare her to a woman that cut off men's heads because she was ed at what happened to her ancestors, well, that's another thing.
Besides, if I'd lived in Puccini's time & he looked at me..... I would've been there for him! :)
