: : : I would like to know:
: : : what orchestral version you would suggest,
: : : and what site offers objective and selective discographies regarding Haydn's work as well as classical music in general.
: : : I'd be grateful if anyone could help me... Thanks in advance
there's an excellent recording of the orchestral version by the hungarian state orchestra, with janos ferencsik conducting (actually, i dont see why the string quartet arrangement is the one usually heard - i prefer the orchestral version).
There's also an ORATORIO version (haydn arranged these pieces for chorus, orchestra and 4 vocal soloists and added an instrumental interlude)- there;s an excellent recording of this version with the concentus musicus of vienna (on period instruments) conducted by nicholas harnoncourt.
this version is excellent as well -its nice to hear the music in different arrangements.
