Scarlatti was very innovative both harmonically and rhythmically. K. 175 uses very 20th-century harmonies and dissonances. Another modern-sounding piece is K. 407 in C major. Here he uses some form of bitonality, and groups most of the phrases in bars of 5, 7, and 9. This one kinda reminds me of Bartok.

The coolest syncopation can be found in K. 545 in B-flat major. I have never heard anything like this written in the Baroque, Clical, or Romantic period.

I don't think anyone will disagree if I say that Domenico Scarlatti was the most original and inventive composer of the Baroque era.

: Now, there's a piece that puts ol' Dom in a cl by himself. If I'm correct, rythmic dissonance like this wasn't used until Stravinsky did it almost 200 years later.
