I read somewhere that the opera was recently discovered (for a long time they only had the 1st act). From what I have read about it, it was somewhat successful in its day, if we can judge by the number of revived performances.
I have heard 'Tetide In Sciro' recently, and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with some of the arias. Even during this time, Scarlatti showed that he could be an original and inventive composer. 'Tetide In Sciro' was written around the same time as 'Tolomeo e Alessandro', so it is probably stylistically very similar.
Once I have increased my personal web-space, I will make some MP3s of this sorely-neglected music available online. I will need to double-check any legal issues in doing this. The MP3s I have were sampled from an LP recorded in the 50's, and is unavailable as far as I can tell.
