Hey, why is Monteverdi in the Baroque section? Isn't he a late Renaissance composer? His music is definetely late Renaissance in spirit and style and so is the music of many of his contemporaries up to about the 1650s. The same thing applies to Schutz. Although most information states that the Baroque period began around 1600, it would be much more correct to state that it began around 1650, although we can never be certain about such things. After all, Pergolesi was composing in a Clical style in the 1730s, when Bach was writing his thoroughly Baroque Pions and cantatas! And we are taught that the Clical period begins around 1750. What do you all think on this subject?
