Good for you! Classical or "art" music has always exchanged ideas with popular music. They mocked Gershwin for his blending of jazz with classical idioms, but his are among the most popular compositions from the early 20th century.
I agree with Gioacchino Rossini. "There are only two kinds of music: good and bad."
