: Returning from the Sistine Chapel, I've forgotten what our guide told us. Apparently the term a'capella originated in the Chapel. Something about not having an organ/piano. I know the term means accompanied but there was more to the story from the guide. Any info out there? Thanks.
Its actually a corruption of the phrase "A Couple". Originally "a couple a singers." Later reduced to "Acopela" and thence, "a capella". Later this became the legendary pianist,William Kapel. A capel meister such as J.S. Bach, would then be one who brings beer to the singers. Hence the term bach beer. Over frequent imbibing of the bach beer has been termed Offenbach.I hope this helps.. I mean if you dont know, just ask.
