Bruckner fans will be delighted to know (if not already) that BIS label has released fascinating world premier recording piano music of our beloved master, Anton Bruckner. The CD, released last November, includes:
Sonata in G minor, first movement (sketch; 1862); Stille Betrachtung an einem Herbstabend (1863); Steiermärker (c.1850); Lancier-Quadrille (c.1850); Piano Piece in E flat major (c.1856);
Fantasy in G major (1868);
Erinnerung (c.1868);
... AND
the beautiful but dark colors of Adagio (funeral march) from the great Symphony No.7 - about 27 minutes long! (total playing time is about 65 min.)
The piano pieces are melodic and pleasant to listen. The piano transcription of the great adagio is fascinating to hear - slow tempo playing should please Celibidache fans. Although a tad slow for my tastes, but enjoyed it nevertheless. I hope BIS continues to release world premier trascription recordings of Bruckner's other symphonies (the 8th on pipe organ was released few years ago)
On behalf of all Bruckner fans, thanks to the fine Japanese artist, pianist, Fumiko Shiraga and BIS for making this blessed music (CD) possible.
Of course everyone is conscious of the legendary BIS recordings. Unlike many other recorded piano music, this one sounds exactly like "grand concert piano" played on a stage. Just amazing!
Here's BIS web site...Check out the CD (BIS-CD-1297)
