I can only tell you that I have his Sym #1, recorded in the 1990s and that I've heard him lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in concert twice - the 5th and the 9th.

His recording sounds much in the same style as his concert perfermance, tho the latter was more exciting and the CSO was an incomparably better orchestra than his Japanese group, tho they're certainly fine as well.

I think his Bruckner is among the very best. He certianly brings a different point of view to Bruckner - urbane and perhaps closer in spirit, if not in style, to the earlier generation of Bruckner conductors.
