here in Montreal it seems... as we get extra treat this season.
The artistic director of Leipzig Gewanderhaus, Herbert Blomstedt will be conducting, for the first time, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) of AB's Romantic symphony in mid April of 2003 (along with Mendelssohn's violin concerto and Mozart's magic flute overture). GREAT! Will buy tickets now, in advance...as all the program contents are great works.
Then we get Franz-Paul Decker (i like his Bruckner conducting) will be conducting B's 7th with the MSO in December of this year (along with Berg's violin concerto and Brahms' tragic overture)... I love this symphony and the entire program contents too.
Then, I Musici de Montreal (chamber orchestra) - a great ensemble BTW, will be performing B's String quintet in F major - arraged by its artistic director Yuli Turovsky (they've released many CD on Chandos label). Also in the same program, Arnold Schönberg's FASCINATING Verklärte Nacht will be played as well. This will be a major treat!
That's three concerts of the great AB... i've never seen this 'much' before!
Other notable concerts include (which i will be attending) are as follows:
- Mahler's 10th full version (D.Cooke) with Mozart's 23rd piano concerto (you've got to love Mozart too!)
- Brahms' violin concerto, 2nd piano concerto,
- Brahms' 1st piano concerto. Bartok's concerto for orchestra
- And of course the "New Year's" concert...not in B country, but right here in Montreal. Yup, we have it here too.
And I would like to hear from you too... the programs you will be attending in your city as well... -- Ara A.
