We all know of his grandoise and profound work - enabling one to travel inwards and explore within, liberate infinite energy, the feeling of immense lapses of time that brings us closer to the origin of all energy and all life. Such is the effect of a Bruckner symphony.
Here are some excerpts from the CD booklet:
Giacinto Scelsi's music, the AION - PFHAT - KONX-OM-PAX reach an extraordinarily powerful sound, whose gradoise effect is no doubt unequalled since Bruckner's 9th symphony. The comparison, however astonishing it may seem, is fully justified because of a similar conception of time and sound corresponds a similar mystical experience. >>>"No doubt Bruckner would write like this today..."<<< But Scelsi's orchestral works are astonishingly varied. He is not only a contemplative mystic, the most powerful, even violent outbreaks are not any more lacking in his music than in Bruckner's.
Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988) practically unknown up to a few years ago, and a name did not even figure in most works of reference. But in October 1987 when the ISCM Festival in Cologne was inaugurated by a concert specially given over his works for orchestra and chorus, the huge hall of the Philharmonic was entirely booked out, not only for the concert, but for the public dress rehearsal too, and the old master was endlessly acclaimed. Awhole chapter of recent musical history must be re-written: the second half of this century is now unthikable with Scelsi.
If you like György Ligeti's Apparitions and Atmospheres, you'd love Scelsi's music. The playing of the CD at a local music store was an astonishing and elevating experience for me - just like a Bruckner symphony!
Scelsi wrote other fascinating works as well which i am currently exploring...
The CD is a digital recording and is of demonstration cl (ACCORD LABEL #464 239-2 owned by universal as i see their logo) with excellent reverberation qualities as required with such music. duration is about 48 minutes.
Performed by the ORCHESTR ET CHOEUR DE LA RADIO-TELEVISION POLONAISE DE CRACOVIE conducted by JÜRG WYTTENBACH.
