Why is everyone so quick to think that Satan is the villain? In Paradise Lost, God is probably the vaguest character that we meet. We don't know of any weaknesses that God poses to have. Whereas, Satan is definitely a more developed character than God. So...naturally we are going to criticize the character we know more about. Through knowing more knowledge about Satan, we know that his weakness is inevitably his pride. But we don't know anything about God so we can't ridicule him. We know that he lacks emotion, whereas Satan presents more variety of emotions. “Satan, now first inflamed with rage, came down, the tempter ere th’ accuser of mankind,/To wreck on innocent frail man his loss/Of that first battle, and his flight to hell.” (9-12) To top that off, If God is omnipotent and omniscient than why does he allow evil to occur? He should be able to prevent it. Now… I am not saying that God is to blame because he’s not, God helps to save mankind which is a very noble thing to do, all I am saying is I don’t think we should blame or make one character the hero or heroin unless we know enough about each character to make that statement.
