Hello, I have read Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan several times and it is one of my favorite books. I believe that Pilgrim was afraid of death, and realizing his sinful condition and all his sins, he knows that he is a lost man and headed for destruction just like the town in which he lives. He is looking for a way out as he reads his Bible. At the beginning of the book he sees nothing but death because of his sins.
