: : : Referencing the Jefferson Airplane song White Rabbit, the last line is "remember what the dormouse said: 'feed your head'..."
: : I also have researched this..I have not been able to find this line in any of Lewis Carrols works. I am begining to think Grace Slick simply made it up...If anyone has any other thoughts, please post them. ~~Keith
: Yeah, it seems that the dormouse did not say that anywhere. However, depending upon the punctuation of the song lyrics, it may be that Slick is not actually suggesting that he did say it. If the "feed your head" phrase is not in quotes in the lyrics, then maybe all she's suggesting you do is "remember what the dormouse said" (whatever that may be), and that those words would help feed your head. So, maybe if we look up what the dormouse _does_ say, we might discover why Grace thought that that information would help us in nourishing our noggins.
: Now, the dormouse doesn't say much in "Wonderland", and most of what he does say is a story about a treacle well. Hmmm. However, he also mentions that the three sisters at the bottom of the well were "drawing" things that "begin with an M". Now, perhaps this is tenuous, but given the song's theme, maybe Slick has used this to refer to marjihuana, suggesting that smoking a bit of draw might feed our heads? Or maybe I'm reading WAY too much into this!
: It might be worth contacting Martin Gardner, editor of the "Annotated Alice" books, to see what he has to say on this.
:or maybe youre just brilliant. i like the way you think.
