Carol was often legally taking Opium along with many other authors, definatly at the time of jaberwok and Alice in Wonderland. Keep in mind that Disney's version leaves out a lot also. Although he was allowed to be taking this drug, it does partially take away his credit for the story because he was under influence. It had nothing to do with LSD or even breaking the law.
