I'm in the process of doing a paper on Lewis Carroll. I have read about 15 book-biographies so far, and lots on the internet. There are no references to drugs in any of them. None, whatsoever. Yet, all my friends have the idea in their head that he did, and no proof to back their statement up, besides "it was so popular back then for people to do drugs." They didn't have LSD or Crack back then. People can twist anything to the meaning that they want. I'm not saying he didn't, but I've found nothing even suggesting he did, except my friends that heard a rumor. He did have a fascination with little girls, though (girls about age 5 to 15). It was a sick one, sketching and photographing girls , yet with the victorian culture it was more encouraged than discouraged. I think that was part of why he alienated himself from the adult world.
