Please join our inductive bible study of each book of the bible. Starting with Genesis we will study each book a week at a time. Here are some guidelines you may find helpful.
3 steps
1 observation
a Become a detective. What are the facts.
b Read the whole book aloud in one sitting if possible. For example read the whole book of Ruth at one time.
c Whats the big idea?
d Ask questions: who? what? where? when? how?
e consider the type of literature.
f. Be sensititve to the mood/atmosphere of the book.
G summarize the main ideas in your own words.
2 Interpretation (exegisis)
a Ask the why questions.
b Determine what it meant to the original readers.
c Becone a time traveler. Consider the historical context.
D what cirstance could have led to the writing of the book?
E What did the author wish to communicate to the reader of his day?
3. Application (hermemneutics) How does it apply to me today?
a The goal of bible study.
b Determine the general principles that can be drawn from your study thus far.
c Ask yourself if there is an identical, comparable or different situatoion to which this principle may apply today.
D prayerfully meditate on these principals and consider:
1 how do these truths apply to my life.
2 what changes should I make in my life.
3 how do I plan on carrying out these changes. Be specific.
4. Commit these changes to God in prayer.
