At the conclusion of this week of study I would like to make some comments about Genesis. I felt impressed by a number of things which spoke to me personally which I will decribe as the meaningful truths found in the book. First I see a clear purpose in the first book of the Bible showing God's desire to have fellowship with man. The attributes of God were also seen clearly. We saw that God is a creator, who is a person and has interaction with others. He is intimately involved with man. God is just. We saw that in the fall. I was touched by God's willingness to wait until the cool of the day to discipline Adahm. Which illustrated God's patient desire for restoration of his creature.
This word adahm is hebrew and means mankind. The fact that male and female were created in His image show a picture of God as more that just male and also more than just female...as Jesus said...it is'nt like when men and women are married here on earth in heaven.
I felt that this desire for relationship in God is seen in Abraham and noah as a plan which God has, and will accomplish through those who will cooperate with Him in not only just knowing Him, but making Him known to others; and in doing so, finding a revelation of God in people who were created in His image.
So from the begining the picture of God as redeemer is clear. From the first mention as redeemer from the curse and work of Saten. And then in noah as savior of mankind. God is also seen as an enviromentalist in his effort to keep alive one of each species which was stated explicitly.
The story of Israel as God's chosen people begins here and so do many covenaants with Isreal and other people. People who swore to live in peace with them. This is I believe important. The portion of scripture refering to Ishmael was also very significant that he will be a wild whose hand will be against his brothers...possibly fortelling the great opposition to the ultimate purposes of God on the earth, and a prediction of an empire which will ultimately bring the ultimate oppostion to salvation through faith in God as savior versus the effort of the flesh and of mans own good work to save himself. ie cain vs able, tower of babel vrs the ark Isac vrs Ishmael. Finally Joseph as a type of Christ is a significant study which I hope to develop and present later....for now Jacobs blessing of Judah was a significant prophecy about the Messiah...the septer shall not depart from Judah...question? Where is the only genelogy of Judah on record. The Ingels for the Moslem, The New testement gospels of Mathew and Luke for the Christian, and for the jews in the recors of Mathew a first century tax collector.
