It is absolute hogwash that the Bible teaches that the soul is not immortal. Looking over what you have written, I see you have done what every other advocate of that stand does: he provides two or three verses, misinterprets the word "destruction", and tries to prove from all of this that the Bible teaches non-existence at some point.
However, if you actually READ some Scripture it becomes quite clear that the soul exists forever, either in a state of eternal bliss or of eternal torment. There are so many New Testament Scriptures that refer to this that I would just encourage the true seeker to find a Bible search engine on the net and look up "eternal life", "everlasting", or something similar to these. There is one verse specifically speaking of "eternal destruction" which demonstrates that the person I am responding to is dead wrong in their understanding of the word "destruction": it is not an event, but is often spoken of as a state of existence, much like "living in death" versus living in life (cf. Eph 2:1).
Though the Old Testament focuses more upon temporal blessings and sufferings (the concept of eternity is veiled), one particular verse that refers to it most definitely is Daniel 12:2.
Unfortunately I must go to bed, but I hope that this deters people from simply accepting the above theory, that the Bible doesn't teach immortality, and perhaps will seek further instead of taking his rather uninformed word on this matter. I would not be surprised if this person belongs to a cult quite outside the realm of Biblical Christianity and is seeking to promote his rather "unique" (to be polite) beliefs.
Sincerely,
Ivan T.
