"My Side of the Matter" is a bit of a dectective story in my opinion. The main question is whether the "houseguest" has stolen the 100.00 dollars. The anwser is yes. Why? Capote puts several different things in to show this and you have to hunt them down. One of the ways you know that he has stolen the funeral money is because he only stole 100.00. A real thief would have taken the entire amount, a thief who only takes a small portion of the amount is strange. Why did he take only a small portion. He believed Eunice would figure she had miscounted her money. He finds out pretty fast that Eunice can count as well as the folks in Washington D.C. who make the stuff. How does he find this out? He realized how well she can count when she discovers that 100.00 dollars exactly is missing. There are other clues in the story. See if you can find them. Good luck!
