: Maya Angelou : Has been a great influence for me, being an African American my self-growing up in the 50”s I can account for a lot of racial and economical trials. I started writing poetry myself at the age of 17 coming from an abusive situation it became a release for me to write down my pain, hurt and confusion. It was not until some years ago, that I started reading Maya, and found that her life was not to different from mine, her work inspired me to write about my pain and learn to let go of the hurt through my pen.
